About fifty young people have met the President of the Council of the Municipality of Prilep (Mrs. Gordana Miceska) and representatives of the Commission for Social Activities and Children's Rights, as key institutions within the decision-making at the local level. At the meeting young people could also openly ask for what concerns them, meet the President of the Council and discuss how young people can reach out easier to institutions, e.g.: Does the institution have an open day for citizens and specifically young people?; Do all the activities carried out concern young people? What are the most common topics of the activities? How can young people contribute to the work of the municipal council? etc..
The aim of the campaign “Information Right Now!" is to raise awareness among the young population in the Republic of Macedonia to seek information from state institutions, and ask for better quality of information because "timely information is more valuable than anything". Report from Orhid:
The Coalition of youth organizations SEGA in cooperation with the Youth Council – Prilep (member organization of SEGA), joined the European campaign “Information right now – Young people are asking” implemented by ERYICA (European Youth Information and Counseling Agency) in partnership with the Council of Europe. The campaign will be implemented in the period of April to November 2012.
Aiming to this in Prilep, Bitola, Ohrid, Tetovo and Tearce were organized meetings with the Presidents of the Municipal Councils, as key decision makers at local level.
The idea is youth to be informed about the work of the Municipal Council, to be introduced in its functioning and role in the decision making processes targeting youth. At the meetings young people had the opportunity to ask everything in their interest and concern. The campaign aims to raise awareness among young people, decision makers and media on the special role of youth information with regard to young people’s access to rights and – eventually – on the access to information as a right in itself for all young people.
On occasion of the European Youth Information Day, the President of the Municipal Council of Ohrid, Dushko Jakovcheski, met representatives of the Youth Parliament of Ohrid. At the meeting they discussed about the jurisdiction of the Municipal Council, the openness of the municipality to youth, the cooperation with the Youth Council and the possibilities of youth participation in decision making processes. Unfortunately, common conclusion was that youth information within the local self-government does not function and that is a field of common interest and opportunity for joint activities.
